Bottle Rockets
Get ready for launch! Scouts will turn a 2-liter soda bottle into a water rocket, decorating it with fins, a nose cone, streamers, and other lightweight materials before launching it from our bottle-rocket launcher.
This project is a fun way to combine creativity and hands-on STEM: Scouts can experiment with shapes, balance, aerodynamics, and see how high their creation can fly.
Building your bottle rocket
What You Need
One clean, empty 2-liter soda bottle
Duct tape
Card stock or foam craft sheets
Streamers and stickers
Other lightweight decorations
Important: The bottle will be upside down—the part where the cap attaches is the bottom of the rocket and connects to our launcher. Keep the bottle threads completely clean and uncovered.
Building Tips
Use card stock or foam to make a nose cone and 3–4 evenly spaced fins.
Keep decorations lightweight and securely attached.
Please do not cut, puncture, or damage the bottle itself.
Crafting at School
No glitter, paint, or glue may be used at school. Tape, foam, card stock, stickers, and streamers are all great choices.
At home, other materials are up to you—just remember to keep the bottle threads clean and clear.
Add your Scout's name to the rocket, bring it on launch day, and get ready to see how high it can fly!
